REPORTED SPEECH – STATEMENT SENTENCE

രണ്ടോ അതിലധികമോ ആള്‍ക്കാര്‍ തമ്മില്‍ സംസാരിക്കുന്നതിനെDirect Speech എന്ന് പറയുന്നു. ഈരണ്ടോ അതിലധികമോ ആള്‍ക്കാര്‍ സംസാരിച്ച അതെ കാര്യം അതിരൊരാളോ കേട്ടുനിന്ന ആളൊ ചില മാറ്റം വരുത്തി മൂന്നാമാതോരാളോട് പറയുന്നതിനെ Reported speech / Indirect speechഎന്ന് പറയുന്നു. Direct Speech ല്‍ Double inverted comma (“ “)ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കുമെങ്കില്‍Reported speech ല്‍ അത് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കില്ല. ഇന്ഗ്ലീഷിലെ നാലുവിഭാഗംsentence ( Statement, Interrogative, Imperative, Exclamatory എന്നിവ) കളയും നാലുവിധത്തിലാണ് reportചെയ്യുന്നത്. Reported speech ന് ഇന്‍ഗ്ലീഷില്‍ വളരെ പ്രാധാന്യം ഉള്ളത് കൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ഇവ മത്സര പരീക്ഷകളില്‍ പതിവായി ചോദിച്ചു കാണുന്നു

Direct Speech ല്‍ കണ്ടുവരുന്ന ചിലവാക്കുകള്‍ Reported speech ല്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാറില്ല. ഉപയോഗികാവുന്ന വാക്കുകള്‍ ചുവടെ കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു

Statement Sentence

ഒരു Statement Sentence നെ എങ്ങനയാണ്‌ Reported speech ലേക്ക് മാറ്റുന്നതെന്ന് നമുക്ക് പരിശോധിക്കാം.

സാധാരണയായി ഒരു subject / noun (Ramu / Sita / he / she / it / they / you / we / My Cat etc.) കൊണ്ട് ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന വാക്യങ്ങളാണ് Statement Sentence . ഇവിടെ  Double inverted comma യ്ക്കകത്ത്subject / noun കൊണ്ട് തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്ന് നോക്കണം. അങ്ങനയെങ്കില്‍ അതൊരുStatement Sentenceആയിരിക്കും.

Sneha said to me “ I can do it” ഈ വാക്യത്തെ എങ്ങനെReported speech ലോട്ട് മാറ്റാം എന്നതിന് ചുവടെ പറയും പ്രകാരം ഉള്ള കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ടതാണ്.

1)  Double inverted commaക്ക് പുറത്തുള്ളത് ആദ്യം എടുത്തെഴുത്തണം

2)  Double inverted commaക്ക് പുറത്തുള്ളreporting verb ആയsaid നോടൊപ്പം toഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ said toഎന്നതിനെ told ആക്കി മാറ്റണം

3)  Double inverted commaമാറ്റുമ്പോള്‍ conjunctionആയി that എന്ന് ചേര്‍ക്കണം

4)  Double inverted commaഉപേക്ഷിക്കണം

5)  ചോദ്യത്തിലെ Double inverted commaയ്ക്കകത്ത് Pronoun ( I, we, you, he, she, it, they)എന്നിവയില്‍ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒന്ന് ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അവ, ആര്, ആരോട് സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിനനുസരിച്ച് മാറ്റണം,. മേല്‍ ഉദാഹരണത്തില്‍ Snehaഎന്നോടാണ് ( പരീക്ഷ എഴുതുന്നയാള്‍ ആതായത് താങ്കളോട്) സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്.Sneha, I (ഞാന്‍) എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ അത് Snehaതനായാണ്. ആയതിനാല്‍ I എന്നത്She (Snehaഎന്നത്പെണ്‍കുട്ടി ആയതിനാല്‍) ആയി മാറുന്നു

6)    മറ്റൊരു വിധത്തില്‍ പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ Double inverted commaയ്ക്കകത്ത് I, we(അവയുടെ വിവിധ രൂപങ്ങളായ me, my, us, our) എന്നിവ വന്നാല്‍ അത് സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ആളിനും / ആളുകള്‍ക്കും അനുസരിച്ചും you (your) എന്ന് വന്നാല്‍ കേട്ടുനില്‍ക്കുന്ന ആളിനും / ആള്‍ക്കാര്‍ക്കും അനുസരിച്ച് മാറണം.

7)  Third Person (he, she, it, they എന്നിവ ) ല്‍ മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ വരില്ല

8)  Double inverted commaയ്ക്കകത്ത് ഇനിയുംPronoun ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ ആര് ആരോട് സംസാരിക്കുന്നുവെന്നതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലുംPronoun കളുടെ subject forms (his, her, it, them, you, me, us) Possesive forms (his, her, its, their, your, my, our)രൂപങ്ങള്‍ക്കനുസരിച്ച് എഴുതണം

9)  തന്നിരിക്കുന്ന വാക്യത്തില്‍ Auxilliary Verb ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അതിന്റെ മാത്രം past tense എഴുതണം.Auxilliary Verbഇല്ലായെങ്കില്‍ മാത്രംverb ന്റെ past tenseഎഴുതണം. Auxilliary Verb ഇല്ലാതെവരികയുംverb തന്നെ pastലുമാണെങ്കില്‍ ( അതായത് simple past )verb ന്റെ past perfect form (had + ppv )എഴുതേണ്ടതാണ്.

10)                 Did + not + simple past ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ didഎഴുതരുത് പകരം had + not + ppv (past perfect )എഴുതേണ്ടതാണ്

11)                 Direct Speech ല്‍was / were വന്നാല്‍ അത് Indirect Speechലേക്ക് മാറ്റുമ്പോള്‍ had been എന്നായി മാറുന്നു.

അപ്പോള്‍ മുകളിലത്തെ ചോദ്യമായ Sneha said to me “ I can do it”എന്നത് Sneha told me that she could do itഎന്നായി മാറുന്നു.

1.   “I am leaving for Madras tomorrow” Tom said

          Tom told me that he was leaving for Madras next day

2.   “You can get the photos day after tomorrow” said the photographer to me

The photographer told me that I could get the photos in two days time

3.   He said “I met her last year”

He said that he had met her the previous year

4.   She said “I mailed to him yesterday”

She said that she had mailed to him the previous day

5.   “I did not tell him truth “ she told me

She told me that she had not told him the truth

6.   “You are cheating me” she said to him

She told him that he was cheating her (are എന്ന auxiliary verb ന്റെ past tense,were ആണെങ്കിലുംsubject ആയി heഉത്തരത്തില്‍ വരുന്നത് കൊണ്ടും അത് ഏകാവചനമായത്

 കൊണ്ടും were ന് പകരമായി അതിന്റെ ഏകവചനമായ wasഉപയോഗിക്കണം)

7.   She said “Ramesh, I shall tell you everything tomorrow”

She told Ramesh that she should tell him everything the next day

8.   “I can complete this work within two days” Raju said to his officer

Raju told his officer that he could complete that work with in two days

9.   Tintumon said to his friend “I do not go to school”

Tintumon told his friend that he did not go to school

10.                  Sherin said to her mother “I saw two snakes in the garden”

Sherin told her mother that she had seen two snaekes in the garden

  മേല്‍ നിയമങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തമായ കാര്യങ്ങള്‍

1.   Reporting verbആയി said ന് പകരം say / says / tell / tells / ask / asks വന്നാല്‍pronoun മാത്രം ആര് ആരോട് സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിനനുസരിച്ച് മാറ്റിയാല്‍ മതി.verb ന്റെ tense ല്‍ മാറ്റം വരുത്തേണ്ട കാര്യം ഇല്ല.

eg: My father says “ I have seen the film”

    My father says that he has seen the film

2.    ഒരു പ്രകൃതി സത്യത്തെ ആണ്Direct Speech ല്‍ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് എങ്കില്‍ Reported Speech ലേക്ക് മാറ്റുമ്പോള്‍ tenseല്‍ മാറ്റം വരുത്തേണ്ട ആവശ്യം ഇല്ല
